The Community Classic

Petz 4 is the game 99% of the community plays and creates content for. It has the largest library of custom content, the most active fanbase, and is the main focus of POMS community events and activities.

This complete version has been recreated from several community resources noted in readme-new.txt. It includes the official PFM DLC for Petz 4, PetzA 3.10 from Ratshack, and recommended Resource folders.

A Little Petz History

The original Dogz and Catz games were developed by P.F. Magic in the mid-1990s as virtual pets for desktop computers. Players could adopt petz, care for them, play with them, take photos, and breed them. Players were encouraged by the developers to create websites and send petz files to friends. This resulted in an entire community of people who love to build kennels & catteries, fan sites, archives, show clubs, and trading communities around these pixel animals.

Over the years, Petz players have figured out how to customize breedz, petz, clothez, and toyz at the code level (called hexing, as in hexadecimal and hex-editor). They've expanded the game itself as well as the tools used to create Petz content.

POMS exists to help preserve and connect these community resources & traditions.

Getting Started

Download Petz 4 above.
Extract the game to your main hard drive, an external, or a cloud drive.
Run the Petz 4.exe as Administrator for best results.
Back up your adopted petz, downloaded files, and custom content regularly & before making major changes.
Visit PetzU for tutorials, DoPP for custom content, or the Bazaar or UKC when you're ready for community activities!
